In The News

Friday, September 28th, 2007

This week felt like it would never end but Friday is here and I am glad. That can only mean that it’s time for In The News, shake well before reading.

  1. Did you read about the big baby? It seems that a Siberian woman gave birth to her 12th child. Baby Nadia was delivered by caesarean section and weighed in at 17.1 pounds!!. “What did the father say? He couldn’t say a thing — he just stood there blinking.” said Tatyana Barabanova, Nadia’s mother. That is one big baby.
  2. Did you read about TV’s top earners? It seems that the top 20 TV earners made a collective $723 million dollars from June ‘06 to June ‘07 according to Forbes TV 20. Here are the top five. 1. Oprah Winfrey with $260 million, 2. Jerry Seinfeld with $60 million, 3. Simon Cowell with $45 million, 4. David Letterman with $40 million and at number 5. Donald Trump with $32 million. My name in that list………………..nope.

If you remember in the last Investing 101 report I mentioned that I was very excited about reaching the $1000 mark, you can read about it here. It finally happened and I couldn’t be any happier. I know that I am on the right path and that is what this is all about. It is not that hard, and if you believe that it is just take me as an example. I invest $50 a month in my 403-B, it’s taken out of my paycheck automatically so I don’t miss it. If I did have those extra $50 in my hand I would no doubt spend it on one of my hobbies, don’t get me wrong I do enjoy my hobbies but I have to do it while sticking to my budget. There are some other investments I would like to make so I checking brokers to see which one will accept the $300 I have to start, I will  let you know how that turns out. In the meantime let me enjoy today’s milestone.

I still can’t get over that 1-1 tie on Sunday. Don’t now what I am talking about read this post. At least we are halfway through the week and that means it’s time for Wednesday Video. Lasts week’s video was “Take On Me” by A-Ha, when I first saw this video it blew me away. I still think that this is one of the best videos of all time, one of my all time favorites. And now, for today’s video, will you like it?, will you hate it?, remember to let me know.

Splitsville?

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

At one point or another I have thought about just that, splitting the blog into  two separate totally different blogs. One about the weekend and how to best enjoy it of course and another about investing and how to make as much money as possible for the future and if I were crazy enough I could make it three. The third being about something I keep away from this blog and have only mentioned just once in passing and that is politics. But the more I think about it the more I am hit by reality. If I do split into two blogs that means double the work and that in the end could affect the amount of weekly posts. Just imagine if I went for all three, total meltdown…………….maybe. The splitting things is a very appealing idea and I am giving it a lot of thought. I guess we’ll see what happens right.

330 Points

Monday, September 24th, 2007

The weekend was a lot of fun, the only bad thing about it is that it only lasted two days.

Saturday I got up late, nothing new about that. I relaxed for a while and then sat down to watch some movies. I ended up watching 2 movies, “World Trade Center” “Kindergarten Cop” and I about half of “The 13th Warrior”. It’d been a while since I’d watched that many movies in a row but it felt good to just sit down a watch them. At night I got to play Scrabble with my brother and his girlfriend, my final score was a lousy 116. Hey, the last time I played was in 2001 so I was a bit rusty.

Sunday I got up early to get ready to watch the game. That four time champion DC United vs the Chicago Fire. The game ended in a 1-1 tie and that didn’t sit to well with me. I know the team was missing 3 starters but that is not an excuse whatsoever. We should’ve won that game. Enough about that. Come night time it was time for ,you guessed it, Scrabble round 2. This time around my sister was invited to play and of the five games we played I won 2 games. My high score for the night was 330 points. Played a bit better but still not happy about it but I will be ready for next weekend. I then watched some TV and then went to bed and that was the end of the weekend. Don’t forget to make this week a very productive one, you know I will.
