In The News

Friday, August 31st, 2007

After a two week hiatus the least powerful name in news is back. We hired no new staffers, we opened no new overseas bureaus and you sure can’t find us on cable or regular TV for that matter. In The News steroid free most of the time.

  1. Did you read about the diamond encrusted skull? It seems that artist Damien Hirst sold his diamond encrusted platinum skull called, “For the Love of God,” for $100 million dollars to an investment group. The skull is built from 32 platinum plates and 8,061 diamonds. It has a 52 carat pink diamond in the center and is studded with 14 pear shaped diamonds.
  2. Did you read about the suspended wrestlers? it seems that World Wrestling Entertainment has suspended 10 of its wrestlers for violating a steroids and other drugs policy instituted last year. I am shocked to say the least, yeah right.
  3. Did you read about Victoria Beckham? It seems that Posh Spice will make a guest appearance in “Ugly Betty” this coming season. She will play a bridesmaid at the wedding of Wilhelmina Slater played by Vanessa Williams. I wonder if she would write a guest post for Weekendshere, imagine all the publicity you would get Victoria.
  4. Did you read about the kung fu monks asking for an apology? It seems that the cradle of Chinese kung fu, The Shaolin Temple is seeking an apology from a forum user who goes by the name “Five Minutes Every Day” because he said that a Japanese ninja went to the Shaolin temple and asked for a fight and that the monks failed to beat him and according to “Five Minutes Every Day”, “The facts that the monks could not defeat a Japanese ninja showed that they were named as kung fu masters in vain.” To which a lawyer for the Shaolin temple said, “The so-called defeat is purely fabricated, and we demand the Internet user to apologize to the whole nation for the wrongs he or she did.” yep.

Superliga Final

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

The Superliga final took place yesterday between the LA Galaxy and CD Pachuca at the Home Depot Center. After an own goal by the Galaxy they came back to tie the score with a goal you have to see to believe. Click here to check it out and see what I mean. After a 1-1 tie in regulation the game went into over time but the score remained the same. The game was decided on penalty kicks with a final score of 4-3 in favor of Pachuca. They become the first Superliga champions and to them I say congratulations champs.

See You Later Mike

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

Welcome to the final edition of Open Mike Wednesday. If you are a long time reader then you know that Mike has been with us since the beginning of this blog. Mike seemed like a good idea at the time but as time passed I realized that it was the wrong kind of weekly post for this type of blog but I am pretty sure it would work for a different one. And just like I mentioned before it has been canceled. Gone but not forgotten but who knows, maybe Mike will be back some day. Thanks for everything Mike, I will see you later friend.

That leaves us with no regular post on Wednesdays but worry not. I already have something in mind and just like Mike it will be a weekly feature. I think you are going to like it but if you don’t be sure to let me know ok.

Sleepless In L.A.

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

The time is 3:25 AM PST as I write this post and for some reason I can’t go to sleep. Don’t know if it is the pain in my legs, specially my knees and calves or my usual bad habit of going to bed late. This much I know, I am watching The Matrix Reloaded and keeping my eye on the second total lunar eclipse of 2007 and according to what I’ve read it will last about 1 hour 30 minutes. I just went outside and the moon has this faint orange glow. When I first went outside to check at about 2:30 AM I could still see part of the moon shining. I don’t think I am going to be able to watch the rest of the movie or the eclipse for that matter so I am going to go to bed and try to get some rest because I have a lot of things to do today. Have a great day and I will see you later.
