In The News

Friday, June 29th, 2007

We finally made it to Friday. Remember that the weekend is just a few hours away. But before you kiss your wife and kids, before you start to enjoy happy hour and definitely before you get your iPhone, read In The News. All the news you need in a day, 100% CNG powered and loving it.

  1. Did you read about the speeding Washington drivers? It seems that 2 men were speeding, going 141 mph on I-5 in Snohomish County. The State Patrol trooper thought he was hearing an airplane as the 2 cars speed past him. He caught up with the 2 speedsters because they stopped for a passenger to change cars. Both were booked for reckless driving. Some guys have that need for speed I guess.
  2. Did you read about that traditional spice? It seems that marijuana possession is a crime in Indonesia. If you are a chef though, you can use it as a traditional way to season curries. Vice president Yusuf Kalla said, “it is all right to use it as a food seasoning, but it should not be fully legalized”.
  3. Did you read about the iPhone? Well, the Apple iPhone is coming out today. Check your local Apple store and you will find people already in line waiting. It will premiere and will be available today from 6 p.m. to midnight, the price between $500 and $600. I go with that saying, if you can’t afford it, you don’t need it.

The stock market has been going up and down. A lot more downs that ups if I remember correctly. I usually check how the DFEMX fund is doing everyday and check my overall investments the day before I write the post because that is when my account is updated. Lets see how those numbers look.

Copa America 2007

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

As you all know I like soccer a lot. Well, after winning the Gold Cup on Sunday the U.S. travels down to Venezuela to take part in the oldest international football tournament on the planet starting in 1916. This will be the 42nd edition. The tournament starts today, check your local listings. There are 3 groups, consisting of 10 South American teams and 2 invitees, those being The United States and Mexico. It will also mark the return of the U.S. to Copa America after a 12 year absence mainly due to scheduling conflicts with MLS. Check this link if you want to know more about it http://www.copaamerica.com.

Group A, host Venezuela, Bolivia, Uruguay and Peru.

Group B, reigning champion and powerhouse Brazil, Mexico, Chile and Ecuador.

Group C, The United States, powerhouse Argentina, Paraguay and Colombia.

I am not going to make any predictions, I stopped making those a long time ago and I am not about to start again. Let the best team win. Why am I writing about soccer? because, Copa America like the World Cup don’t come around every year and when they do they are big news and worth talking about. Specially if you are a soccer fan like me. Who knows, maybe I will turn you into a fan, if you are not one already.

Here is a pic of Team USA colors.

And the tournament’s mascot, Guaky.

Plenty Left Undone

Monday, June 25th, 2007

The weekend is over and a new week is upon us. Relaxed most of the weekend and didn’t do most of what had to be done. I did do some writing and watched some games. I am very disappointed in my team, we lost on Saturday 2-1 to The Real Salt lake, a team that was winless, I repeat, winless all season. I understand Real Salt Lake, they were hungry for a win and the United was the lucky team on the receiving end. Ok, enough about that game, we lost and that is the end of story. I checked the MLS gear website and I am just waiting for a D.C. United hat to be made available and I will get it. See the pic below, that is the Chicago Fire hat, it looks good if you ask me. Except United’s will alot look better.

On Sunday I saw the U.S. vs Mexico game in the Gold Cup championship. It was a good game with the U.S. coming on top 2-1 with a superb goal by Benny Feilhaber. If you haven’t seen it then get online look it up and you will see what I mean.

I have a confession to make. I have been playing way too much X-2 The Threat, it is one of the best looking games I have ever played. I do leave it alone during the workweek and that is ok. Anyway, lets make this week a very productive one.

Welcome to the end of another week. After working hard all week you deserve to unwind for a change and read In The News your weekly source of the best news available anywhere. 100% organic and staying that way.

  1. Did you read about the vanishing lake? It seems that a five acre glacial lake in Chile’s Southern Andes “had simply disappeared” said Juan Jose Romero head of Chile’s National Forest Service. Park rangers found a 100 feet deep crater where the lake had been in March. Check the picture at the bottom.
  2. Did you read about the most hated Internet words? It seems that there are some words Internet words that make people go ugh. According to a poll commissioned by the Lulu Blooker Prize of 2,091 adults in England of the most hated words published the results on Thursday. Here are the top 5, #1 folsonomy, #2 blogosphere, #3 blog, #4 netiquette and #5 blook. I have to admit, I don’t hate any of those words.
  3. Did you read about a ruptured cable disrupting Internet service? It seems that accidental damage to an undersea cable left millions without their Internet service in five Latin American countries. In Colombia as many as 45% were left with no service. Panama, Venezuela, Costa Rica and Nicaragua reported problems as well.

Here is the pic from the vanishing lake story.
